It has multiple endings and they are actualy different and worth finding. There are totaly brutal battles, if you don't like dying over and over again dont bother but if you like a challenge this game could be a new favorite.. I found this game to be incredibly addictive. imagine FTL, but in a 3-D form, and with the option to just roam around the galaxy at whim. there are a few things, like pathing not being completely optimal, but i only really encountered that in the huge fleet battles at the end of the game (no spoilers there, it was always gonna happen). basically, if you like flying ships around in space, blowing up pirates with missiles and lasers and plasma, then this game will give you a good few hours of that, and the campaign missions are just generally fun. a warning, the intro is slow, you start off with an unarmed ship and you basically get bullied through the first entire sector, but that gives you time to get to grips with the game and towards later game you can go toe-to-toe with just about anything, so your revenge will come!Great game, customisable pilots, fighter ships, and mothership, plenty of explosions, and a large universe if you want to go wandering. 10/10. Not a bad game, except for the fact that there are numerous points were if you go to far off a path you will instantly be killed by a large number of ships spontaniously appering.. In my eyes best of the SW series, and quite polished (or a price) game. Space pausable RTS/RPG hybrid, with good balance and interesting relation between developing the skills and upgrading the ships. Acceptable story with some choices, Free roam actually gives some sense and there are significant enhancements to SW1. Game is not stellar and had a bi of issue with balance (rockets and missiles underpowered), but I enjoyed my game.. I miss this game, I think I'll have to reinstall it and have another go.What you see here is a rather niche game, an early RPG hybrid space RTS, it is immensely fun, and while it can involve a lot of saving it scratches an itch in space game fans. I've not found another game that really does what this game does, the starpoint Gemini games come close but not quite like this one. Looks wise it can be similar to the Homeworld games in many respects, especially with the engine trails that allow you to track fighters easier. Imagine if instead of a massive fleet like you have in Homeworld you had a carrier, and your heroes commanded the fighters. There are a myriad of fighter classes to choose from, ranging from interceptor classes to heavy fighters and advanced supports vessels, all of which you can equip your heroes with, each having a different hull and the ability to take different classes or numbers of weapons, all of which you can pick. Weapons range from light fast firing machineguns, heavy cannons and lasers all the way to missiles, then there are systems you can equip that improve the crafts performance.Even your mothership can be fitted with various weapon in a range of calibres, plus, making a debut in this game, heavy calibre capital class guns specifically for firing on opposing motherships.Heroes can also be customised with various skills that can range from piloting skills that enable them to dodge incoming fire, gunnery and missile skills that let them hit impossible shots, and system skills that give them blanket benefits for the squad or debuffs for the enemy. Some even have unique skills to handle certain ships and weapons, or even call in on-the-spot reinforcements to help you in a jam.All in all while the dialogue may go on a bit (plus there is little voice acting), the looks still hold up, the gameplay (while punishing at times) is solid once you get the hang of it, and the cuntomisation and freedom in the game is well worth a look when it's on sale.. This is my Review of Star Wolves 3: Civil War.SW3:CW is a non-direct Sequel to SW2 which... had its flaws. You start the game off and get instantly Asked what kind of Skill-Tree you want to follow, note that this is a Permanent selection, each of the Tree's is balanced out enough, but still there "Rocket Salvo" which when Skilled to max extent, will not only let your Pilots shoot rockets at an INSANE rate, but it also affects Big Guns/Small Guns and other types of Weaponry.Which makes the game very Easy in fact, you can take down several Battleships in just a couple of Seconds with the right Weapons, not even including Modded Weapons. (Full Plasma + Endgame Rocket Salvo = Ez Win). But as the Difficulty of the game rises as you go further down the Storyline that doesn't matter most of the time, but theres still the side effect that you feel like a Superhero at endgame. Many People are talking about how Linear this game, and... yes. it is, but what can you expect some small group of Ex-Modders is able to do?, and yes. The Development Team of this Game is a Group of EX Modders, please take that into consideration when you (reader) also want to make an Review of this Game, you can't go too harsh on em.OVERALL PRO'S & CONTRA'S OF THE GAME -----------------------PRO: -Fun and Challanging Game if you have Played Star Wolves 1 and are familiar with this Style of Gameplay-Neat and Quite Useful "Realtime Pause" Feature, which reminds of Baldurs Gate-Easy Moddability, which lets you almost change every Aspect of the Game, from Weapon PFX/SFX to Whole new Sectors with Systems, although it could have been a bit more, the unlocked files in the game data folders are doing its job.-Although not so active anymore, still has a very Friendly Community and the people over at 1C Company Forums in the SW Thread are always willing to help-Due to a wide array of Available Weapons & Rockets this game allows the Player many Tactical Choices-OK Graphics-HIdden Stashes & Eastereggs to find.CONTRA:Uses LUA4.1 which is severely Outdated, even for a 2010 Game (Since LUA5.0 was available at that time)-Outdated Engine and Poor Optimization, this game goes down to the knees everytime there is a Scripted huge fight going on (Several of the Ending Fights often go down to 20-15 FPS because of that)-Balancing Problems (Example: Rocket Salvo 4)-A Bit of boredom in Freetime: This game has made an attempt to fill the universe by increasing Random events and random encounter by a huge percentage than it was in the last game, but they will get boring quickly since most of the time it is the same thing over and over again, there is only very little stuff todo if you are Freeroaming and not grinding Missions-Although the game got patched on the usual occasion, the are still Story breaking bugs present in the game, but they are not consistent, they will often happen at random due to the Script Code not being able to keep up with what a Player has done or not done-VERY Limited Freedom: This game has you on the Leash, I mean it almost literally, there are extremely many occasions where you as the Player need to do what the Mission and Story tells you EXACTLY or the Game will Blow your Ship up and tell you its Game Over.As Much as I like and Love this game, there are far more Negative things in it than Positive, but I would still Recommend it, I don't know why, but this game is just too much fun sometimes. One Last Note: If you are New to this Game and would like to try it out, heres a ProTip: Save. SAVE OFTEN. SAVE EXTREMELY OFTEN, because the game will eventually get the jump on you and RNG will take you out. and also: Go to the 1C Forums and try out some Mods for the Game, its worth it.Nocalora out. 30+ hours.. Lots of possibilities.. Great fighting style.. great leveling system.. good story.. Bad endning.. 8 of 10... Star Wolves 1 sold me this game even though it was short because I figured there would have been a bit more development. Well there was to an extent but I couldn't find a way to escape the Viper storyline because first, if your lion mothership is underpowered in a preceding mission, you die. So you get all the best sheilds and weapons on the lion. But then if you choose a mission fork and disobey Viper you get kicked out of the Lion that she brought to the battlespace and guess what to win the last mission with the hardest sheilds and turrets well you have to fight the Lion to escape and your new mothership is an unamoured unsheilded freighter with no weapons. Well I tried a lot of things but there was no way to beat the lion if you didn't want to go viper's way because if the sheilds were too low in the preceding mission you couldn't complete that and choose the fork. Thus I uninstalled the game in frustration which was sad really because it is a game that held so much promise it is fun collecting ships and resources and zipping about the galaxy but it is basically terribly scripted and assembled and it's basically a huge pia. Pain in the Auxiliary exhaust. Following that there is supposed to be in existence a 4th instalment that maybe some problems were fixed in but that is likely wishful thinking. & It's not the only game from this developer (1c) that seems to start well and end half-finished with rumors of patches fixes and whatever but nothing readily available? If I could spit acid and vitriol they would be suitably envenomed.Just wanted to share with you all that I finally found a way to break away from the Viper mission fork right at the start of the game if you ignore the MSF on the first mission and don't run the mission for that first encounter in the trader tub but continue on to the next system you don't encounter Viper hence you can develop the other storyline forks that there may be I only found one that was pretty short you just fight the beserks until they take over the galaxy but I still don't really know what the other paths might be & I didn't like it because it was too short and the game didn't really play to it's strength which was developing the skills to deal massive amounts of damage. At the end of the beserk fork I found it was impossible to beat the last mission without missiles which when done properly deal a highly amusing level of damage to enemy ships and practically insta-smash them but then with that one crescendo the game ends, and that alternate ending was quite unsatisfactory because you didn't really beat the beserks and they took over the universe. I haven't combed through it to find other forks or try the Viper line using the God Mode cheat and then sneaking off in that other tub to see where it leads although there are probably quite a few mission forks they are quite hard to find and when they span practically the entire game it's quite hard to know where to save before the trigger point oh well generally speaking though it has been quite a few years since this game has been released and I still haven't got around to exploring the full extent of it's contents. I don't know if I'm a fan of games where you might never complete them in your lifetime for all practical intents and purposes, or within the window where the technology to run the game still operates, with so much hidden content or what to think about it. Maybe if it hadn't been so clunky to navigate I would have turned it inside out but that's not how it turned out. It was an ok level of fun to develop a strategy to win the last battle but all the same too much a flash in the pan. The original storyline fork was well disguised as appearing only to be a side quest but the first encounter pretty much decides the whole outcome of the game & where the other trigger points are is anyone's guess they could be masked as anything.
